Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a Lane, a Bay, and the Range?
Great question! Here's how we use these terms at Hangtown Range: A Lane is your individual shooting position - the specific spot where you stand and fire at your target. A Bay is the room that contains multiple lanes (we have two bays at our facility). The Range refers to our overall shooting facility as a whole. So when you book a session, you're reserving a lane inside one of our bays, all part of the Hangtown Range.
Do I need to bring my own firearm to shoot at Hangtown Range?
No. We offer affordable firearm rentals for pistols and rifles. However, you are welcome to bring your own firearms as long as they are in compliance with California law and unloaded when you arrive.
What are the basic range safety rules at Hangtown Range?
All shooters must: (1) Keep firearms pointed downrange at all times, (2) Keep finger off trigger until ready to fire, (3) Wear eye and ear protection, (4) Obey all range officer commands, (5) Unload before leaving your lane, (6) Never handle firearms behind the firing line. Detailed rules are posted at each range entrance and explained during check-in.
Is eye and ear protection required at Hangtown Range?
Yes, absolutely. Our facility policies mandate hearing and eye protection for all shooters. We sell hearing protection and glasses at the counter if you need them. We also provide rental hearing protection upon request.
